SWIMMERS from Thurrock Swimming Club participated at this year’s Regional Youth Championships held in Norwich.
Martine Tran qualified for the finals of the 200m fly after finishing the heats in 8th place. In the finals, Martine improved her heat time by an impressive 3 seconds and finished in 7th place overall. She also finished in 7th place in the 100m fly final and just outside of her personal best in the 50m backstroke and 50m fly.
Tilly Mayes set a time of 28.21 in the 50m freestyle, qualifying for the final where she improved her time to finish in 5th place overall. In the 50m fly Tilly equalled her personal best time, qualifying for the final where she improved her time and finished 2nd overall. She also achieved a personal best time in the 50m backstroke.
Luke Crofts achieved a personal best time in the 50m backstroke, breaking 30 seconds in a 50m pool. Luke swam just outside of his best times in the 200m backstroke and 50m breaststroke but improved his personal best time in the 100m backstroke.
Jack Conroy participated in his first competition this weekend where he competed in the 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke and 50m fly – achieving a personal best time in all of his races.
Radost Milkova achieved a fantastic 3 second personal best in the 200m backstroke, just missing out on a position in the final. In the 50m backstroke, Radost qualified for the final, also achieving a personal best in the heats. In the final, she improved her time by 0.4 seconds and finished in 7th place overall. Radost also qualified for the final of the 100m backstroke where she finished in 6th place overall. She also finished just outside of her personal best in the 200m fly; but achieved a 2 second personal best in the 100m fly.
Rebecca West participated in the 200m backstroke achieving a 1 second personal best. In the 100m breaststroke, Rebecca achieved another personal best time, just missing out on the final. She also competed in the 50m breaststroke and 50m fly.
James Edgings completed in the 200m fly – he swam an excellent race and finished with an impressive 7 second personal best.
Phoebe Brennan swam a great 200m breaststroke, finishing with a 3 second best time and she also competed in the 200 backstroke. Phoebe also swam a good 400m Individual Medley where she equalled her best time.
In the girls 14 – 16 age group, Tilly Mayes, Rebecca West, Phoebe Brennan and Radost Milkova improved their overall placing in the 4×100 freestyle relay.
All of the swimmers participating in this year’s regional youth championships swam a great race and Thurrock Swimming Club are proud of their achievements.
