Cricket: Horndon send Harlow Town back down the hill

Horndon on the Hill 1stxi 198-6 v Harlow Town 1st xi 197-9

HORNDON continued their decent early form as they welcomed Harlow Town to the Rec on Saturday. The home side won the toss and after the previous weeks run chase decided to take to the field. Harlow started the stronger as opener Suraj Chauhan took an early onslaught to the Horndon opening attack. Connor Hammond broke the early partnership by dismissing Ashley Alderson for 14. The big breakthrough came 3 overs later and it was Hammond again as Chauhan (47) was caught by Stephen Edwards at Mid-off.

Tight bowling from Stephen Edwards and spinners West & Malhotra frustrated the visitors in the middle overs as wickets began to tumble and the runs dried up. Hammond returned at the end with another fine spell but thanks to a late flurry 41 from Daniel Farmer, Harlow set Horndon 196 to win. The impressive Hammond was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-58 off 15 overs.

Horndon stuttered in rely as they lost opener Walsh for 1 but Tom Stone (28) and Martin Sayer (22) fought back well to get the home team off to a reasonable start. Ben Eversden entered the attack for Harlow and took 3 quick wickets of Stone, Sayers and Stitson leaving the home side 60-4. With a mountain to climb Horndons middle order set to the task. Jeff West Jnr and Connor Hammond put on a dazzling display as they constructed a brilliant 120 run partnership. Despite losing West for 68 and 20 runs needed the game was all but over. Sandeep Malhotra (14*) joined star man and all-rounder Connor Hammond (46*) as Horndon chased the target with 5 overs remaining.

Horndon on the Hill 2nd xi 91al v Belhus 2nd xi 93-4

Horndons second string struggled as they travelled to a strong Belhus side on Saturday. Winning the toss and batting first the visitors struggled against the Blehus attack as they were dismissed for just 91. Jamie Fairweather done the main damage taking 4-14 off 6 overs. Belhus wasted no time in chasing the small total and won the game in 19 overs losing 4 wickets along the way. Charlie Lewis top scored with 38 not out.

Horndon on the Hill 3rd xi 216-8 v Harold Wood 4th xi 214 all out

Horndon continued their impressive form as the beat Harold Wood to take the early top spot of division 3. Winning the toss and fielding first Horndon bowled out Harold Wood for 214. Balamurugesh Ambalavanam (50) & Erantha Muthuk (42) were the top scorers for the visitors as Paul Challis 4-91, Alan Patmore 3-50 & Morgan Stone 3-23 were among the wickets. Horndon chased the total in just 36 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Paul Challis (48) & Anthony Cain (46) top scored and Michael Rowe picked up 3 wickets from just 2.5 overs for Harold Wood.

Horndon on the Hill 4th Xi 78-2 v Brentwood CC 6th Xi 77ao

Horndon continued their unbeaten run to the season as comfortable winners at Brentwood. Winning the toss and bowling Horndon bowled the home team out for just 77. Richard Jasper picked up 3 wickets and Ali Shah 4 as only Ken Hobbs (22) made in into double figures. Horndon wasted no time and chased down the required score in just 16 overs. Keith Mager 31* and Gopi Aswath 25* saw Horndon home to victory.
