South Ockendon: Man shot in the head by crossbow bolt

ESSEX Police are investigating following an incident in South Ockendon where a man was struck in the head with a crossbow bolt.

It was reported the man, who is in his 60s, had been walking his dog through Dilkes Park when he was struck at around 4pm on Monday, July 16.

He had suffered a minor injury and was taken to hospital where he received a single stitch.

Officers carried out a search of the area but could not locate anyone. Investigations are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Jasmine Frost said: “This is a rare and unusual incident and, while the motive is not yet clear, we believe it is an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.

“If you have any information about what happened I need you to come forward and tell us.”
