Adult learners celebrate 100% GCSE pass rate at TACC
ADULT learners studying for English and maths GCSEs at Thurrock Adult Community College have achieved an incredible 100% GCSE pass rate. This is the first year that adult learners were required to study for the reformed GCSEs with a new numerical grading system from 1-9 awarded instead of the traditional lettered results.
The college are delighted to report that all students achieved a 4 to 9 grade (with the latter being higher than the previous A*, only given to approximately 2 percent of candidates nationally). The GCSE results build on consistent results that placed TACC 3rd in the country for post-19 education and in the top 1% for maths GCSE performance last year.
Their achievements are even more remarkable when considering that the students studied intensively for just one academic year while juggling busy home and working lives. Jaki Bradley, Principal at TACC congratulated the learners on their inspirational learning journeys and dedication to achieve such fantastic results. She also thanked the tutors for their continued hard work and for offering a range of free support programmes including Saturday tutorials from January to March, to maximise every learner’s chance of success.
A learner from the GCSE English course highlighted in her end of course feedback the many benefits of returning to lifelong learning saying “I began the course to occupy my mind, and have finished the course in a new job. Attending class has helped my mental health and helped to give me confidence to apply for the job.”
