Free evening event in Thurrock for people with diabetes
THURROCK Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in partnership with Diabetes UK will hold a free event to help people with diabetes know what services are available to them and to provide feedback on those services.
The Diabetes Engagement Evening will be held on Thursday 4 October at Committee Rooms 2/3, Civic Offices, New Road, Grays. The event aims to help people from the Thurrock area who have been diagnosed with diabetes, by providing them with essential information on the services available, what they should expect and how they feel the services meet their needs.
Diabetes is a serious, lifelong condition which can be treated with diet, exercise, medication and/or insulin.
Diabetes UK will provide information on the 15 Healthcare Essentials. Commissioners and providers will showcase local services available to people with diabetes in the area. This will be followed by a workshop enabling people to feedback on their experiences and tell commissioners how the services are working for them.
Kehinde Adeniji, Senior Commissioning Manager and Planned/Unplanned Care Lead for NHS Thurrock CCG, said:
“Following our successful ‘Living with Diabetes’ events, we wanted to give more people with diabetes the chance to get together and meet some of the healthcare professionals that provide care and support in Thurrock. This evening event is an opportunity for people who may not find day time events convenient, to have a chance to find out more and have a say on their local services.
“We are pleased to be working with Diabetes UK to support people locally and to promote the Diabetes Support Group in Thurrock.”
Rebecca Jones, Diabetes UK East of England Improving Care Manager, said:
“We would really encourage people in the Thurrock area who are living with diabetes to attend this event. In order to improve current services and develop better diabetes services in the future we need to hear from people living with the condition or their carer.
“There are around 8,600 people diagnosed with diabetes in Thurrock. It is vital that as many people as possible share their experiences with health providers, the more information we have now the better supported people will be going forward.
“Next month’s event will also ensure people are aware of the services which are available to them now. The more information and support people have, the easier it will be to manage the condition and live well.”

The event will run from 6.30pm – 8.30pm at Civic Offices Committee Rooms 2/3, New Road, Grays, RM17 6SL. Stalls with information will be available from 6pm, with refreshments.
