Planning permission granted for East Tilbury Library refurbishment
PLANNING Permission has been granted for the refurbishment of East Tilbury Library following a devastating fire which struck after a vehicle was driven into the library and set alight in January 2017.
The refurbishment will bring a number of improvements including a new entrance and two new meetings rooms for community use.
Thurrock Council has worked closely with volunteers from the Bata Heritage Centre, which was based in the library, on plans for the refurbishment to ensure the library meets the local community’s needs.
Work is set to get underway immediately with the newly refurbished East Tilbury Library planned to re-open next spring.
Cllr Deborah Huelin, Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “It is great to see that works getting underway to restore and improve this important community resource. We are working with members of Bata Heritage Centre and the Welcom Forum as the refurbishment takes place.”
