Rugby: Thurrock victory dedicated to Martin Fahey

Thurrock 77 v 7 Chobham

THE 1st XV dedicated this match to former club stalwart Martin Fahey who sadly lost his fight with cancer a few days before the game, it ended in a fitting tribute as Thurrock produced their best performance of the season despite giving away far too many penalties keeping the opponents in the game

It was the visitors who started off the better and took a deserved lead through a Whale try and converted against the breeze by Dunne.

It took Thurrock 10 minutes to draw level as Dan Carey was on hand to dive over and score Sam Stanley added the conversion and the home team’s nerves had settled

Thurrock added 2 further first half tries from Dan Stone and Tom Pool both converted by Stanley for a half time lead of 21-7

The second half started with a stutter, but once in gear Thurrock were unstoppable with fine attacking rugby, Dan Stone added 3 more tries and Tom Pool 2 more with Sam Stanley adding 2 tries to add to his unblemished kicking all 11 conversions for a personal tally of 32 points, Bradleigh Retigan added the other try with a fine run out pacing the Chobham cover to score 56 un-answered points.

This week THURROCK are on the road again when they travel to HOVE where there is a 2pm kick off
