Orsett Heath Academy planning application given the green light
THE planning application to provide an interim building for Orsett Heath Academy, in partnership with Thurrock Rugby Football Club (TRFC), has been approved.
The plans, put forward by the South West Essex Community Education Trust (SWECET) and TRFC, were approved by councillors on 10th January at a Thurrock Council planning committee meeting.
Steve Munday, Chief Executive Officer at SWECET, said: “I am delighted that our planning application with TRFC was approved at the planning committee meeting. The need for new Year 7 places in Thurrock is critical, with a significant confirmed shortfall of secondary places in the borough. This represents another important and positive step towards us being able to offer places at Orsett Heath Academy in interim accommodation.
“I would like to thank all those who recognised the importance of Orsett Heath Academy and showed their support by attending our meeting and supporting the application online.
We are continuing to work tirelessly with the Department for Education to gain their ‘approval to open’ as the next crucial step and will continue to keep parents up to date with information as we have it.”
The interim Orsett Heath site will be built adjacent to the existing TRFC building and facilities. SWECET and TRFC have worked together to develop plans that maximise the positive impact of the development for the community.
Once the school moves from the interim building to the main Orsett Heath Academy building, the site will remain in joint use for educational and sports provision. This will create a lasting legacy, enhancing education, sport and recreation as a ‘Thurrock Institute of Sport’.
Orsett Heath Academy, which will be run by the same Trust as William Edwards School, is set to be an exciting development for the children and families in Thurrock as it will provide an additional 1,200 pupil places when full.
