Ward by Ward: Chafford Hundred and North Stifford

IF THIS ward tells us anything about the mood in local and national politics it might be how many voters may stay at home, disaffected by Brexit etc.

This ward usually gets around 25% to 30% turnout.

It has been a solidly Conservative ward and there is nothing to suggest it will change.

The Tory majority is solid but spectacular. In 2016, the Tories won by 179. There could be a case for a Labour candidate giving it a go and perhaps getting the success they had in South Stifford.

There are plenty of issues to get stuck into, crime being one as not a week goes by without a report on disorder in Chafford Hundred but even though candidates could try laying the blame with the Tories, you doubt it will have traction.

Thurrock Independent Graham Hamilton is the councillor for Belhus but is trying his hand in Chafford.

It is also good to see a Green candidate. Not sure there has been one for quite some time in Thurrock.

The Labour candidate had a crack at Aveley but again is trying his hand in Chafford.

Have the feeling they may all split the vote and leave the path clear for the Conservative.

YT Prediction: Cons Hold

Mark Coxshall (Cons)
Graham Hamilton (Thurrock Independents)
Julian Puttergill (Green)
Rafal Zak (Labour)
