THURROCK Council is in the running to be named Local Authority of the Year after it was revealed as one of the top five finalists in The Municipal Journal (MJ) Local Government Achievement Awards 2019.
A judging body shortlisted Thurrock for the prestigious award alongside the London Borough of Redbridge, London Borough of Waltham Forest, North East Lincolnshire Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council.
The council is up for four awards in total – Local Authority of the Year, Care and Health Integration, Innovation in Finance and Senior Leadership Team – after a record number of entries were submitted across the UK to 18 different categories covering frontline services, leadership and individuals. Its communications team was also commended for Innovation in Communications.
Thurrock Council has a strong track record of cross-party engagement and working closely with partners in the community, business and third sectors, as well as taking an innovative approach to tackling the challenges facing local government.
Award winners will be announced on Wednesday 26 June at a ceremony in London.
The MJ Local Government Achievement Awards has been held annually since 2004 to recognise officers, managers, teams and councils for the delivery of their services over the past 12 months.
