BROTHERS Oliver Nyland (11 years old) and Theo Nyland (8 years old) made it to the final ten of the Leeds Castle 900th Anniversary ‘BIG 900 Story Writing Challenge’.
Both of their story entries had been selected from literally 100s of stories sent in and chosen as two of the very best.
Organiser Gemma Wright, said that one of the best things about the competition was that brothers had made it into the top ten in their respective categories (the 5-9 and the 10-13 age groups).
Over 700 children took part in the competition and the entire Education Department at the castle made up the judging panel.
As finalists, they were both invited to Leeds Castle for a very special event during the May half term holiday on Thursday 30th May where TV presenter and children’s story writer, Clare Balding, presented the prize for the winner of each category.
To the delight of the family, Theo won the 5-9 category and sat thrilled to hear Clair Balding read out his story ‘Thomas’ Time Travelling Adventure’. As winner, he scooped a hamper of prizes, a stay at Knight’s Glamping for the family, a private tour of the castle, and family tickets to the Fireworks Spectacular 2019.
The family will also be invited to take part in the time capsule ceremony in June with HRH Princess Alexandra, who is patron of Leeds Castle where Theo’s story will be included in the Leeds Castle 900 Time Capsule, not to be unearthed for 100 years!
