LOCAL FAMILIES SAY NO TO BUILDING ON CULVER FIELDS
LABOUR councillor for Belhus Mike Fletcher presented a petition to council this week, calling on them to reject any attempts to build on the Culver playing fields without consultation. Over 400 local people signed the petition online or on paper, reflecting the concerns of local people at the loss of another green space.
‘Culver Fields are a popular local amenity’, said Cllr Fletcher, ‘Losing this green space to pack a few more houses into an already densely-built area would be a slap in the face for the local community.
Thurrock Council have not yet revealed any plans to build on Culver Fields but a request has been submitted to waive an environmental survey, and Cllr Fletcher is keen to make sure local people’s voices are heard. ‘All we want’, said Cllr Fletcher, ‘Is for the council to involve local people in planning decisions like this, with such a huge potential impact on local lives’.
