Grays War

From Tuesday 9 July to Thursday 18 July, local residents and visitors can study a collection of arts, crafts, poetry and homemade poppies on the first floor gallery space of the Thameside Complex, Grays, during normal opening hours.

The display features artwork and images created by schools such as East Tilbury Primary School and Purfleet Primary Academy, as well as a number of community groups, including South Ockendon Saturday Sewing Group and Purfleet-on-Thames Community Forum, for events held last year to mark the 100th anniversary of World War One. A smaller, permanent display can also be seen in Thurrock Museum.

Cllr Deborah Huelin, Cabinet Member for Central Services and Communities, said: “Thurrock Council was so impressed by the efforts made by schools and communities in 2018 to commemorate the end of the First World War. It is vital that we remember all these service men and women who fought for our freedom.

“I would encourage everyone to visit this community-inspired display.”
