THURROCK Courts Players are back this October to kick start your Halloween season with Tim Kelly’s macabre and comedic play It Was A Dark & Stormy Night.
Set in the 1950s, deep in the marshlands of America’s New England, the Saltmarsh family run a dilapidated guest house – Ye Old Wayside Inn – which is best avoided when the stormy weather hits. This time the approaching storm coincides with the advertisement for a live-in nurse to care for a most unusual patient and, as candidates arrive to apply for the position, there’s no guarantee of getting out alive.
As further stranded travellers become marooned at the inn and the storm intensifies, one of the proprietors becomes more and more erratic and unpredictable and it falls to the rest of the household to humour him or risk his wrath. But not everyone at the Inn may be all they claim to be and as the story unfolds, truths are told and mischiefs unmasked.
A Courts spokesperson said ‘After an unprecedented break from the stage in 2019, Courts are back and proud to be doing what we are renowned for with this tense and gripping comedy thriller. Our previous successes in this genre such as Murdered to Death and The Ghost Train have had audiences on the edge of their seats and have cemented our place as Thurrock’s premier drama society.’
It Was A Dark & Stormy Night is showing at the Thameside Theatre, Grays from 3-5 October 2019. Tickets are £15/£13 and are available direct from the theatre, via www.thurrockcourtsplayers.co.uk or by calling 07475 634 474.
