St Luke’s Hospice: More than 200 take part in Luke’s to Luke’s Walk

MORE than 200 people took part in the Luke’s to Luke’s Walk on Sunday 6th October – a 5 and 10 mile charity fundraiser organised by St. Luke’s Hospice.

Returning for its third year, the popular event attracted walkers of all ages and abilities. There was a 5 or 10 mile route for participants to choose from. The 5 mile route took walkers from the Hospice in Basildon to Luke’s House in Corringham, through the scenic Langdon Hills County Park. Those taking part in the 10 mile challenge then walked back to the Hospice alongside marshals.

The walk was started by Basildon Mayor Cllr Burton-Sampson.

Joanne Phillips, Community Fundraiser at St. Luke’s Hospice, said: “Well done to everyone who took part in the walk and also Snap Fitness, who led a fantastic warm up! Luckily the weather was on our side yesterday and there was a great atmosphere. There were so many reasons why people took part, many having had loved ones cared for by the Hospice. We’re so grateful you got involved to help raise vital funds for the Hospice.”

Money raised through the Luke’s to Luke’s Walk will help St. Luke’s Hospice continue to support people in Basildon and Thurrock living with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families, friends and carers. The Hospice offers care for those living with or affected by cancer and any other advanced, life-threatening illness, and care is given within the Hospice or at home, wherever that may be.
