Para World Records Set At Thurrock’s Alan Mitchell Gala
THURROCK Swimming Club held their annual Alan Mitchell County Qualifying gala. Not only did the Club see fantastic swims from their swimmers but also witnessed world records set by a visiting international competitor.
It was the first gala of the season for many of the Thurrock swimmers, however, everyone performed extremely well with new personal best times achieved. As well as setting personal best times, most swimmers achieved Essex Qualifying times and will attend the County Championships next year. Helen Thompson from Colchester Swimming Club in the Junior Downs Syndrome Para swimming classification broke the 100m Freestyle European record with a time of 1:29.17, 200m Freestyle World and European records with a time of 3:09.59 and 400m Individual Medley World and European record with a time of 7:38.45 breaking the previous World record by 50 seconds.
