Thurrock Council roll out warm homes fund

PROPERTY owners and private tenants in Thurrock will soon benefit from warmer and cheaper to heat homes as Thurrock Council rolls out its Warm Homes Fund programme.

The council is working in partnership with Aran Energy Services to deliver this programme, and install gas central heating and hot water systems in eligible properties. In total, £451,351 has been granted to Thurrock from the Warm Homes Fund, which was set up in 2017 by National Grid and Affordable Warmth Solutions to tackle affordable heating in fuel poor households and improve residents’ health.

To qualify, occupiers must own or privately rent a property with no central heating or poor energy efficient ratings, and meet certain criteria for grant funding or cover part of the cost of works. Initially, eligible residents will be contacted about the scheme, however the offer is available to any private home in Thurrock that meets these conditions.

Cllr Barry Johnson, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “I’m delighted that we are in a position to offer this funding out to residents who desperately need access to central heating and hot water.

“Everyone should have a good quality, safe place to call home and being able to heat your home as cheaply as possible is vital. We hope this new programme will tackle the problem of fuel poverty and positively impact people’s wellbeing.”

The council’s Well Homes Scheme, which is delivering the Warm Homes Fund programme, aims to help those who live in private properties improve their home, health and wellbeing by providing help to make homes safer and putting residents in touch with health and lifestyle services.
