Thurrock Council condemned by angry residents over plans to build on green spaces

RESIDENTS campaigning to stop a housing development in South Ockendon have launched an online petition against the scheme reports the Thurrock Independent.

Diana Andonie, who is one of its organisers, says: “We have opened a petition to save Callan Grove Fields. We have for the past days gone from house to house to get people to sign it. All the community is against the planing, we had even people crying over the new plans for building and destroying the green and open spaces.

“These are two green areas that are important to the community in an area that is called now the most polluted in UK. Local residents are furious with the council who appear ready to go through with the plans with no infrastructures to support the new builds.

“They only informed the community with a leaflet by post only a week before consultation, and they have added a link in the leaflet that did not work.

“This is not the way to treat a local community. Residents are stressed and furious.

“The bottom line is that we will not allow the council to build on our two remaining green spaces and that we will do all we can to prevent this.”
