A THURROCK parent was presented with an “Outstanding Achievement” award by the ADHD Foundation at the National Parents & Carers Conference held in Liverpool this month.

The Conference, co-hosted by the ADHD Foundation and the Witherslack Group, was the first National conference solely dedicated to parents and carers focusing on special educational needs and mental health. It offered a combination of practical advice and expert opinion on issues relating to Autism, ADHD, Mental Health, Speech and Language, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia.

Thurrock Parent Claire Jones, who has an 11-year-old son with ADHD, swam 14km in the Thames last year raising more than £4,000. With the money Claire organised a free training course led by the ADHD Foundation’s Director of Training which was open to all Thurrock based teachers, LSAs and educational practitioners. More than 70 professionals attended the course and it got outstanding feedback. She also arranged a series of in-house training programmes for local schools.
