FIRE Crews were called to a three storey end-of-terrace house in The Rookery, Grays after a neighbour heard the smoke alarm going off.
On arrival firefighters reported that the top floor and roof space were alight.
Watch Manager Daryl Arnold, Grays Fire Station, said:
“Our crews worked incredibly hard to stop the fire spreading to the adjoining property – so much so, that despite the fire damage caused in this house, the neighbours were able to return to their house the same night.
“This incident shows how vital working smoke alarms are for alerting not just you, but anyone around, to the first sign of fire.”
Crews extinguished the fire by 11.25pm on Monday November 4th.
The top floor and roof of the house have suffered significant fire damage.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as undetermined.
