Report by the Grays Beachcombers

ON Wednesday, we had our last litter-pick of the year. But we did not slow the momentum as 12 volunteer’s collected 38 sacks of rubbish which included 332 bottles from the foreshore at Tilbury.

This brings our year’s total to 37 picks with 559 volunteers attending and filling 1,109 sacks including 10,491 bottles.

Thanks to all volunteers and companies who have offered their support including DP World London Gateway Port, Coca Cola, P&G, Sodexo, Navigator Terminals, Greggs, Costa Coffee, UAE Embassy, Railscape, Ingeus, Grays Open Door, Tarmac and various local Scout Groups. (Sorry if I have missed any groups).

Of course special thanks to Thurrock and Havering Councils, Thames21 and not forgetting Clive our book-keeper.

I will be pulling together a calendar for next year and discuss with the various groups early in the next year, in the meantime our next event is at Grays.

Sunday 5th January 2020 – meeting at Grays Yacht Club RM17 6JF at 10:30 to 12:00 followed by free refreshments in the café. This is the Grays Beachcombers regular monthly pick. This is a family friendly event suitable for accompanied children 6 years and older.

Well done to all of you.

Your work is very commendable and very much appreciated, I think probably more so from the wildlife than us destructive humans but that’s all you need to drive you on.
