Statement from The Hathaway Academy
“This afternoon there was an incident outside of the Hathaway Academy involving two youths who reportedly had a knife. The Academy called the police and immediately instigated its own lock down procedures to ensure the safety of our students.
“The police responded to the incident and once the youths were apprehended, our students were released from the site safely at 3:45pm. We are working with the police to ensure our students remain safe in the Academy as well as on their way to and from the Academy.
“If either you as a parent/carer or your child feels upset by the incident, please do contact the Academy for support.
“The Academy will be open as normal tomorrow”.
Statement from Essex Police
“Officers seized a knife and made two arrests after responding to an incident in Hathaway Road, Grays, this afternoon, Tuesday 21 January.
“We received a number of calls from members of the public reporting two boys were seen running after another boy shortly before 2.45pm.
“We carried out a search and arrested two boys on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. A knife was also seized.
We have spoken to the third boy and he is unhurt.
Thank you to the members of the public who contacted us and we ask anyone with any information to call 101 quoting incident 611 of today’s date.
THERE are reports of police activity outside Hathaway Academy in Grays.
