THURROCK Council may not be marking the United Kingdom leaving the European Union but the Kings Arms pub in Orsett certainly is.
The exterior of the pub is festooned with flags of St George as they get ready for what many residents are calling “Independence Day”.
Starting on Saturday, you may well see George Dixon walking the beat, Norman Wisdom films on a loop and Alma Cogan’s latest single hitting the charts.
A statement on the pubs Facebook page said: “On Friday 31st, one day before the start of the Rugby Six Nations tournament, we’re getting patriotic for our fine nation as we step away from the EU and party!”

We all should be singing from the roof tops and Thurrock Council should be leading the way.
Well done you, Kings Arms.
