Details of A13 closures this weekend

A13

AS works progress to widen the A13, drivers are reminded of a series of weekend and overnight closures needed so the next phase of the project can be completed safely.

This weekend’s closure is from 9pm on Friday 13 March until 5am on Monday 16 March. The road will be closed between the A128 junction (Orsett Cock roundabout) and the A1014 junction (Stanford-le-Hope) with a diversion via the A1013 Stanford Road.

Horndon Bridge will stay open for most of the weekend but there will be a short period on Saturday morning when it can’t be used while a new structure is being lifted into position.

Delays are expected and all non-local traffic is urged to avoid the A13 and use alternative routes such as the A130, A127 and M25.

Next planned closure:

16 March to 20 March, overnight from 9pm to 5am

Cllr Mark Coxshall, Cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The A13 widening is part of £20billion planned investment in jobs, homes and infrastructure in Thurrock. The road is currently operating over capacity, with approximately 77,000 vehicles using this section of road on a daily basis, not acting to alleviate this is not an option.

“Once complete there will be a continuous three-lane road in both directions between the M25 and Stanford-le-Hope. This is an extremely important development for the whole of the South Essex economy.”

Measures being put in place to help keep local traffic on the move are the closure of Buckingham Hill Road, Linford, and Orsett Road in Horndon as well as implementing a temporary one way system in Gordon Road and Victoria Road in Horndon.
