FIVE cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Thurrock in the last 24 hours according to the latest figures from Public Health England released today (26 April).
Things brings the total confirmed cases of the virus in the borough to 261.
Yesterday (25 April), there was a significant jump in the cases in the borough, with eleven confirmed in 24 hours, however there is no evidence to suggest at this stage that this will develop a trend.
The jump of eleven cases was also the highest jump for some time in Thurrock, with preceding days having much smaller rises.
At Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals, it has been sadly confirmed five patients died from coronavirus, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths at the hospital to 222.
The hospital trust remains the worst-hit from coronavirus in Essex.
The latest figures for Essex and trusts close to the county border show that 1,218 patients have sadly died from coronavirus while under care at the hospitals.
Please bear in mind at this stage the death toll only take into account patients at hospitals and not other parts of the community such as care homes.
No official figures for care homes have been released yet.
