ESSEX County Fire and Rescue Service is helping people with sensory impairments to consider their home fire safety as part of Deaf Awareness Week.
The Service will be sharing messages about how it can provide sensory smoke alarms and advice on preventing fire in your home during a free home fire safety visit.
Kieron Moir, Home Safety Operations Manager said:
“Essex as a county has the highest amount of sensory impaired residents in the UK and we’ve adapted our home fire safety visits to suit each person’s needs.
“We can provide sensory smoke alarms as well as give tailored safety advice in your home.
“If you or someone you know needs a sensory alarm fitted, please book a free home fire safety visit: www.essex-fire.gov.uk/book
Did you know you can also text the emergency services in an emergency instead of dialling 999?
The service is open to all mobile network operators and can be used to contact the fire and rescue service, police, ambulance and coastguard in an emergency.
To use this service you must register by sending a text containing the word ‘register’ to 999. This must be repeated if your number changes.
