Update: Crews extinguish fire after blaze at recycling site in West Thurrock

Crews extinguished the fire at 11:13am and have now left the scene.

Crews are working to exintguish the fire in sections and are using a mechanical digger to remove rubbish from the building to dampen down outside.

Firefighters are working to remove the smoke from the building to access the rubbish pile with a mechanical digger.

Firefighters were called to a fire at a recycling site in West Thurrock this morning (Wednesday 6 May).

The incident is on Oliver Close.

On arrival, crews reported seeing smoke coming from the building on-site (which measured approximately 60m x 60m)

Crews are working to extinguish the fire within the building, which is a rubbish pile measuring 15m x 15m, and are using a mechanical digger to remove rubbish from the building to dampen down outside.

Firefighters are extinguishing the fire in sections.
