RESIDENTS on St.Mary’s Close in Little Thurrock put together a video on Facebook which gives a sense of the community spirit in the area
as the borough gets set to mark 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe day tomorrow (Friday 8th May).
All involved are still of course adhering to social distancing rules.
Watch the video below:
There is no doubt they won’t be the only street celebrating tomorrow as the Thurrock community come together.
The following poster has been shared across social media, with many in Facebook groups working on plans of how they can best commemorate the important day.
The Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Terry Piccolo, will lay a wreath at Stanford le Hope War memorial and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Sue Shinnick will lay a wreath at Grays War Memorial at 11am on Friday. Due to Government advice regarding social distancing, both of these occasions will be private and not open to members of the public to attend.
Special pre-recorded videos of readings will also be shared on the council’s Facebook page by both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, to pay their respects to the servicemen and women who fought in WWII.
This will be followed by a special red, white and blue light display outside the Thameside Complex in Grays to mark the day.
There will no doubt be many more stories of celebrations tomorrow and across the weekend as we head in the bank holiday.
YourThurrock looks forward to reporting on them.
