Covid-19: Just one new case and death tally stays at 51 for fifth day in a row

THE TOTAL number of coronavirus-related deaths in Thurrock has stayed at 51 for a fifth day in a row.

Just one new case has been confirmed in the last 24 hours according to the latest figures from Public Health England released yesterday (Thursday 7 May).

The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the borough stands at 293.

At Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital Trust there have been 247 coronavirus-related deaths – the figure remains unchanged.

Understandably, many of our readers have asked why, when we report on the number of deaths at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital Trust, we have not reported on the number of people who have recovered.

That is a very fair question.

ITV’s Robert Peston asked the Department of Heath and Social Care. (DHSC) for an explanation.

The latest figures show the total number of people who have died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus is 30,615.

This is an increase of 539 in the last 24 hours.
