THURROCK motorists are being advised that next weekend, starting on Friday 15 May, there will be a closure of the A13 stretching over four days.
The A13 will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Friday, 15 May until 5am on Monday, 18 May, beneath the A128 junction (Orsett Cock roundabout) with diversions via the exit slip road, roundabout and entry slip road, see the slip road diversion map below.
The road closure is for various preparation works to take place, in preparation for the installation of two new bridges at Orsett, which will take place in the coming weeks.

The diversion below – via the exit slip road, roundabout and entry slip road – apply when the A13 is closed in both directions beneath the A128 junction (Orsett Cock Roundabout).
Alternate route diversion map
The alternative routes below – via the A127 and M25 – apply when the A13 is closed in both directions between the A128 junction (Orsett Cock roundabout) and the A1014 junction (Stanford-le-Hope).
Horndon on the Hill protection
Drivers should not travel through Horndon on the Hill as an alternative to the A13 and the A1013.
To protect Horndon on the Hill during full and partial weekend-long closures of the A13:
Extra signs will be in place to discourage drivers from travelling through the village.
A temporary one-way system will be in place to improve traffic flows, using Gordon Road northbound-only, Victoria Road southbound-only, and Hillcrest Road remaining a 2-way street.
Orsett Road will be closed in both directions between High Road (The Hole in the Wall) and Francis Close, but with access to the post office, church and residential properties maintained.
These measures have been developed with Horndon Community Forum. We will continue listening to feedback and adjusting plans to support residents and road users.
Buckingham Hill Road closures
Buckingham Hill Road will be closed temporarily in both directions between the entrance to Linford Household Waste and Recycling Centre and the A1013 Stanford Road during all full and partial weekend-long closures of the A13.
A signed diversion route will be in place via Muckingford Road, Linford Road, Chadwell Hill, Marshfoot Road, the A1089, the A13 and the A1013 Stanford Road.
Closing Buckingham Hill Road is necessary for traffic on the A1013 Stanford Road to flow more freely.
Linford Household Waste and Recycling Centre will remain open but visitors must access it from the Linford end, not via Stanford Road.
