CURRYS PC World is reopening 131 stores as ‘Tech Help Hubs’ – including the Thurrock branches
The UK’s largest electrical retailer is reopening “slowly and safely” with only 50 per cent of branches initially opening doors to the public.
From Monday, June 15 the stores will recycle all old or unused tech and help customers with tech advice.
Customers will be able to buy from stores, but helping consumers with existing tech queries will be prioritised, company bosses say.
For the first three days of opening, the place of purchase of items customers need help with will not matter.
In addition, the retailer will offer free recycling of any tech brought into store in a way that is within environmental guidelines.
The retailer has extended its returns policy to cover items bought in-store up to the March 24, 2020 and is accepting valid returns until July 6, 2020.
Queue marshals will be on hand to ensure al customers are practising social distancing.
From June 18, the 131 open stores will move to the normal Currys PC World offering, allowing customers to browse shelves.
The remainder of Currys PC World stores will look to open over the forthcoming weeks.
To ensure customer and staff safety; a limited number of customers allowed in store at one time, with a one-way system and clear floor-markings to keep customers at least two metres apart.
Safety screens will be deployed at checkouts and service desks with customers encouraged to use contactless payment if possible.
Cleaning and sanitising of trolleys will be increased, with anti-bacterial gel dispensers provided.
Chief operating officer Mark Allsop said: “Our three day ‘Tech Help Hub’ initiative is part of our commitment to put customers first – even customers that have previously chosen to buy their tech elsewhere. We’re pleased to be opening our stores slowly and safely across the UK & Ireland – and we will maintain extreme vigilance, constantly reviewing and improving our approach to safety in an ever-changing situation. Most importantly we’re proud of our colleagues themselves, people who continue to work hard to make sure consumers across the country get the tech they need safely.”
