Thurrock Council flew the flag today, Monday 22 June, to commemorate Armed Forces Day.

A PRIVATE ceremony was held in line with current social distancing guidance which saw the Armed Forces Flag raised outside the Civic Offices, Grays, by Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Terry Piccolo, for those who served our country in the Army, Navy, Airforce and Merchant Navy.

Cllr Piccolo said: “Armed Forces Day is a time for us to honour the servicemen and women of our armed forces that supported the fight for our rights and our values. It is important to remember those who served in the British Armed Forces and their sacrifices for our freedom.

“Our Armed Services have played a crucial part in supporting our country through the COVID-19 pandemic and helping to keep crucial services running and get key supplies to those who need them across our communities. Although we are unable to host our usual service and bring members of our community together, we hope everyone is able to mark the day and pay their respects in their own special way.”
