ESSEX Firefighters were called to a large grass fire in Grays last night (Thursday 30 July).
When fire crews arrived at the incident, they reported that the fire had spread to approximately 20 acres of grass.
Firefighters worked hard in hot conditions to get the fire surrounded. The fire was extinguished by 10:20pm. The cause of the fire is unknown.
Incident Commander, Watch Manager Dave Bond from Orsett Fire Station said: “With the grass being so dry the fire spread was rapid. Crews worked incredibly hard to surround the fire and extinguish it before it reached either the housing estate or nearby woodland.
“With the hot weather spell due to stay for the next few days it is so important to take extra care when out and about.”
