Lakeside Shopping Centre update on name change after intu went into administration

LAKESIDE Shopping Centre has issued an update on its name change – five months after owners intu went into administration.

The popular Thurrock shopping hub, along with other intu-owned centres, hit the headlines on June 26 this year following news that intu were struggling financially to survive.

The announcement came just moments after the London Stock Exchange had suspended shares in the firm.

intu was hammered by significantly lower rent payments from retail tenants throughout the devastating coronavirus outbreak.

Since June, Lakeside has still been known officially as ‘intu Lakeside’ but that may soon be about to change.

Earlier today (November 5), a post on Lakeside’s social media accounts suggested that a new name under new management could be expected soon.

The post reads: “Things are changing here at intu Lakeside and we are no longer part of the intu family.

“We’ll still be known as intu Lakeside for a little while longer, and the centre will continue to run as normal, but under new management.

Stay tuned here for all the latest news and exciting changes that will take place in the centre.”

From today, Lakeside will be operating on a partially-closed basis due to the second lockdown in England, with core hours between from 9am – 6pm.

However, opening times will vary for each brand, so please check their websites for further details.
