University students attend industry expert virtual masterclasses

LAST week, University Centre South Essex students were given virtual masterclasses in their field from guest speakers and professionals as part of Industry Week.

This year’s event was held virtually through a variety of different platforms and gave students the chance to attend workshops held by industry professionals to help with their development.

The creative industries have faced difficult challenges this year and the master classes inspired students to find out how current industry professionals have adapted to the challenges of COVID-19.

Industry week saw a variety of artists, art directors and creatives deliver motivational virtual online sessions. The specialist guest presentations were delivered by Film Director Abigail Dankwa, BBC Choreographer and Movement Director Gaz Davis, Chrissy Levett CEO of Creative Conscience, James Lester from Ifour Creative Agency, Fine Artist Zarah Hussain, Sam Fairbrother from Ternheads, Jodie Hobson Director at Jodie Hobson Design Ltd, Interior Designers Gary Meakins and Phil Smale, Andy Wyatts Director at Animation Associates and Fashion stylist Emma Lightbown.

Abi Thompson, Programme Partnership Manager for the Creative Division said: “In challenging circumstances this year, we wanted to ensure that students still had access to a variety of creative industry professionals.”“We are extremely proud of the virtual programme of events that we have co-ordinated and would like to thank all involved for making this event a success.”
