Dear Editor,
EVERY year around this time I write about the important work that our emergency services do over the festive period. This year it feels more poignant but also more important than ever to do so.
To the NHS, police and fire staff as well as our paramedics, carers and everyone else who are giving up their Christmas for us I say a huge and genuine thank you. Words cannot begin to express how much all our key workers have done throughout this terrible year and continue to do.

Someone close to me, who is an NHS doctor, has just been diagnosed with Covid-19. She is doing okay but will now have to self isolate over Christmas. For all those who are in the same position I thank you for being on the front line at a time when no one would have blamed you for taking a step back.
To everyone across Essex I wish you a restful festive period. Please stay safe and remember that our emergency services are already under a great deal of strain.
