National Apprenticeship Week 2021 in Thurrock

National Apprenticeship Week 2021

MONDAY 8 to Sunday 14 February is National Apprenticeship Week, promoting the many benefits apprenticeships offer to people of all ages through valuable qualifications and work experience.

Cllr Andrew Jefferies, Cabinet Member for Education, said “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for young people to earn while they learn and progress towards developing a rewarding career.

“The Thurrock Opportunities website provides a huge range of information, guidance and support for those interested in starting an apprenticeship or similar qualification. The website provides details on local apprenticeship opportunities and will host a number of live webinars throughout the week for young people, their parents, schools and local employers to engage with and find out more about what’s on offer.”

Cllr Deborah Huelin, Cabinet Member for Central Services and Communities, said “It’s important to remember that apprenticeships are not only an excellent choice for those leaving school or sixth form but are also available for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

“Through an apprenticeship qualification, which combines a mixture of learning in the workplace and studying, residents can develop their skills and knowledge in a range of areas. We have recently added a number of case studies to our website from those undertaking an apprenticeship at Thurrock Council, giving you an insight into the many exciting experiences and opportunities for development that they can offer.”

The council continues to work with local businesses and organisations to support apprenticeships in Thurrock. Jay Simmons, a former Supply Chain Warehouse Apprentice at The Port of Tilbury who completed their apprenticeship in January 2021, said “The port’s apprenticeship programme has enabled me to learn new skill sets appropriate for my role within the Port of Tilbury. It has given me the opportunity to now be in full time employment with the port after successfully finishing my two year apprenticeship.”
