THURROCK Labour have reacted with fury to the news that nurses’ have been awarded a paltry 1% pay increase – in effect, a real terms pay cut.

This is compounded by the 5% Thurrock Council Tax rise forced through by the Thurrock Tories.

Labour’s Shadow Health Portfolio Holder, Cllr Victoria Holloway, said:

“It is outrageous that our heroic nurses are being treated this way. It is beyond contempt that Boris Johnson, Rishi Sunak and Matt Hancock think they are worth no more than an extra £3.50 a week.

“To rub salt in the wound, Thurrock Tories have increased Council Tax by an extra 5% – that’s 21% since 2016!

“Last summer, we clapped our nurses when we needed them the most. Now, the Tories in government and the Tories in Thurrock have shown what they really think of them.”
