SQUEALS of delight and happiness permeated the hall at Hassenbrook Academy as students received their results from a hard year of mock exams, lockdowns, assessments and teacher assessed grades. There was relief on the faces of the few parents present, at the end of what has been an eventful year for all.

Mrs Sally Feeney, Headteacher, said: “The achievement of our children has been phenomenal. They have succeeded in the most difficult of circumstances and we are extremely proud of them. We are delighted that we are handing over to college a resilient and accomplished group of successful young people ready for their next steps.”

Ms Williams was delighted to see her first group as year 7s successfully achieve the qualifications needed for the next step. She said: “My pride in what you have achieved and who you have turned out to be is limitless. You will forever be special to me. I wish you all the best for the future.”

Dr Sophina Asong, CEO of Ortu, was keen for all Hassenbrook students to secure places at the sixth form of their choice. Dr Asong was keen for students to know that if they have any problems securing a sixth form or college place that they should come back to talk to Mrs Feeney about progression into the Ortu Sixth Form.

Hassenbrook Academy is extremely proud of everyone’s hard work during this year, and would like to highlight some individuals that have really excelled:

  • Tymek Rutkowski, 15, is planning to study Architecture, Maths and Physics at Havering Sixth Form after receiving amazing GCSE results this year. He said: “I’d like to go to University to study Architecture in the future, I like creating and making things so would love to make a job out of this.”

His advice to Year 7s starting at Hassenbrook in September is to get ahead of the game, work hard and ask for extra work when you need it.

  • Harry Gardner, 16, was delighted with the results he received today. He said: “This year has been pretty tough with a lot of ups and downs, but the teachers here have been really supportive. It’s definitely been a really big help with my motivation to study. I’ve always been able to get into contact with my teachers if I’m struggling.”
  • Dominika Osinska, 15, was really pleased with her results and is heading to Havering Sixth Form in September to study Spanish, Psychology and Chemistry.

When Dominika started at Ortu Hassenbrook Academy, she didn’t speak a word of English, with Polish being her first language. She said she loves learning new languages and would like to go to University in the future to study Psychology.

  • Chantelle Gasa, 16, is planning on doing Science and Maths at Harris Riverside to work towards a career in medicine. She said: “The people and the teachers at Hassenbrook Academy really kept me going during my time here, especially Ms Benedetti.”
  • Ella Mulholland, 16, was thrilled with the results she received for her GCSE’s. She is set to start college in September to study Spanish, Government and Politics and Graphic Design. She said: “I’d love to move to the South of Spain one day to do either teaching or graphic design.”
