ROCKS avoided a potential banana skin at Northern Premier Midlands Division Cambridge City, to progress into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

City, who battled through to the 4th qualifying round last season, ply their trade at non league step four, one step lower than the Rocks, and looked lively early on. After hitting the woodwork inside two minutes, the Lillywhites went in front on nine minutes when Connor Barnes scored.

However, the Rocks were level nine minutes later. Johnny Ashman cut into the box from the right, and was brought down. The resultant penalty was confidently fired home by Alex HERNANDEZ. (pictured here).

Ashman, who signed during the summer from Witham Town, was in the Rocks starting line-up for the first time, his debut delayed by niggling injury problems.

Both sides enjoyed spells as the half progressed, but the scores were level at half-time.

Rocks were fast out of the traps after the break, and scored a quickfire double within the opening four minutes.

Two minutes into the second half, the lively ASHMAN latched onto a through ball, and curled an excellent strike past home keeper Dan George to put Rocks in front.

Then, two minutes later Ashman again caused problems. After breaking from halfway, his shot was well saved by George, but unfortunately the last person the home side wanted the loose ball to fall to would have been Rocks in-form striker HERNANDEZ who duly smashed the ball back past the helpless keeper.

City had their moments, and Arthur Janata was required to make a couple of decent interjections, but in the end the Rocks comfortably held on.
