Thurrock Conservatives announce council homes to be built on old council offices

ON THURSDAY night at the Housing Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Cabinet member for Housing, Cllr Luke Spillman announced plans to build 86 council homes on site of C01, the Eastern section of Thurrock’s current Civic Offices. C01 will soon be scheduled for demolition.

Cllr Luke Spillman said “I am delighted to be able to announce to Housing Overview and Scrutiny Committee that a viable financial model has been built that will allow the Council to progress our plan to build social homes on the site of C01. These will be high specification council homes, built for Thurrock people.”

“Thurrock Council’s Conservative administration has great ambitions for the provision of new Council housing in Thurrock.

The Leader of the Council and Cabinet have set me the challenge to deliver upon these ambitions. It is a privilege to be given the chance to lead on this project.”

  1. I wish Cllr Spillman all good luck with this and other plans to build council homes. May I plead that they ago out for competitive tender only to builders who cancan deliver build net carbon homes? With soaring energy bills, prices rising all the time, possible job losses as furlough ends, it is vital we care for the most vulnerable. Barnardo’s is looking for sites to house young people leaving care. Can we consider this?
