Hoop Dreams at Ormiston Park Academy over half term

OCTOBER half term saw Ormiston Park Academy (OPA) run their first Basketball Excellence Programme Camp.  From Monday 25th to Friday 29th October, two sessions per day were held for players from school years 5 to 11.

The younger group had a two-hour session in the morning with the older group training for two hours each afternoon.

There were a total number of 120 attendances with a great mix of age groups and genders.  The skill development throughout the week was fantastic to see with our future teams forming and bonding.  The camp was open to OPA students as well as other local young people.  We are really excited to start playing friendly games next month before we move on to the England Basketball Dynamik National schools Competition, starting in January.

The Ormiston Park Academy Basketball Excellence Programme (OPABEP) mirrors the intensity and schedule of a US collegiate programme.  OPABPE has a balance of high expectation academic tuition, excellent pastoral support, on-court expert instruction and a challenging and appropriate competition schedule which will lead to high level performance for male and female student athletes.  OPABEP is led by ex-professional and national team player, Head Coach, Diana Naydenova Goryanova.  The programme is free to all Ormiston Park Academy students.

OPABEP focuses on position-specific instruction as well as team dynamics, a full and demanding competitive schedule, year-round training and development and frequent evaluation for players and their families regarding their progress both in school and on the basketball court.
