PICTURE this; you’re walking through Lakeside with a Macchiato extra hot and totally engrossed in a TikTok duet when an inconsiderate shopper gets in your way. Annoying, right?
Help is on the way TikTokers and Instagramettes. Lakeside Shopping Centre is introducing Mobile Phone Lanes to let mobile phone-hoggers seamlessly enjoy their phones, head-down and care-free by introducing a dedicated mobile lane.
The two-metre-wide lane will run the length of centre on both levels with clear white lines that can only be used by mobile phone users. The trial will go live from Friday 1 April and, if successful, remain a key feature throughout the centre.
Management is also considering hiring whistle-armed ‘Mobile Marshalls’ that will police the lanes and keep order. A spokesperson for Lakeside Shopping Centre said: “We’re excited to be launching the Mobile Lanes on April 1st and bring a new experience to our shoppers. This is a brainchild of our wonderfully creative marketing team and is the first of its kind in the region. We hope shoppers use the lanes responsibly and considerately.”
