LOCAL housebuilder, St. Modwen Homes, delighted school pupils near its Bennett’s Field development with the chance to create their very own home from scratch.
The children from Benyon Primary School in South Ockendon were joined by their teachers and representatives from St. Modwen Homes for a day of fun-filled design and build activities.

Made from materials provided by St. Modwen Homes, the children’s designs were put to the ‘three little pigs’ test with a fan, to see if they could be blown down with a big ‘huff and a puff’.
With an aim to support the local community, St. Modwen Homes will also be building a climbing wall by fixing stones to part of the school’s new building – providing the children with a lasting reminder of their visit.
Nicola Barrett, Deputy Headteacher at Benyon Primary School, said: “The children always enjoy visits that involve fun activities, especially when they’re able to get creative. All children involved should be very proud of their efforts!
“We are extremely grateful to St. Modwen Homes for providing this exciting experience to our pupils, and of course the climbing wall that children will enjoy for years to come.”
Sophie Schofield, Head of Sales – South East at St. Modwen Homes said: “We always enjoy engaging with members of our local communities and this partnership was no exception. Although this was a fun event, we feel the children benefitted from some insight into the importance of good building design!”
