Essex league victories for Belhus 1st,2nd and 5th XIs
Belhus CC 1st XI 291-7 (Danny Joyce 101* Joe Joyce 84 Shane Barwick 56)
Hornchurch CC 1st XI 170
PLAYING away at Hornchurch, in this sixth Essex Premier League match of the season, Belhus 1st XI racked up a respectable total of 291 for 7, thanks to Danny Joyce (101, not out) stroking a fine century and brother Joe (84) and Shane Barwick (56) providing support.
In their run-chase, Hornchurch CC battled gamely for 56 overs in their quest for a draw, but a superb spell of 3 for 25 from 15 overs by Shane Barwick and 3 for 25 by skipper Max Osborne saw Belhus CC home to a 121-runs win.
Belhus 2nd XI, playing at North Sifford, also batted but they could only muster what we thought was an under-par total of 167 all out.
After tea, Old Southendians and Southchurch CC (OSS) were comfortably in the driving seat in the run-chase but they couldn’t maintain their momentum as the Belhus bowling attack ripped through the lower order to dismiss ‘OSS’ for 148 and march home to an impressive 19-runs victory.
This fine all-round Belhus CC 2nd XI team performance was led by Brandon Millard who produced a superb spell from his 16 overs to capture 5 wickets (“5for”) for 23 runs conceded and register a well-deserved career best in the process.
Elsewhere, Belhus 3rd lost to Sheffield and the 4th XI lost to Rosette but the Belhus 5th XI were in winning form beating Shenfield 4th XI by seven wickets.
