Ortu Gable Hall celebrate Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

STUDENTS at Ortu Gable Hall had a fantastic day celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last week, 13th of June, with a party which undoubtedly had a more exclusive invite list than the one at Buckingham Palace and a visit from the newly elected mayor, Cllr James Halden, and Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Barry Johnson.

To kick off the day’s festivities, Mayor James Halden and Cllr Barry Johnson were taken on a tour around the school where they visited the new Zen Garden and met with the BTEC Construction students who built it from scratch. Both were very impressed with the hard work the students had put into the garden.

Both were treated to an incredible performance of the school’s army cadet’s march in the English Playground before meeting and talking with the cadets about their dedication and handing out awards.

Mayor James Halden said: “Myself and Cllr Barry Johnson are deeply impressed by the cadets display and their dedication to join a noble division and portray their pride to their school and wider country.”

Whilst Mayor James Halden and Cllr Barry Johnson ended up back in the Zen Garden for afternoon tea and cake, Ortu Gable Hall students had a fantastic jubilee party waiting for them on the playground.

Pupils were greeted with carnival games, a burger and ice cream van, slush puppies, candy floss and (of course) free scones! What better way to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne?
