Cricket: Belhus held to a draw by Chingford

Belhus 1st XI 275-6 (Matt Doran 76 Nathan Khelawon 58 Joe Joyce 56) Chingford 1st XI 195-7

BATTING first in this ninth Essex League match of the season, three half-centuries by Belhus CC 1st XI batters posted a respectable 275-6.In their run-chase, Chingford never really looked like reaching the required target and, as Belhus 1st XI bowlers were unable to winkle them out, this Essex Premier match finished in a draw.

The Belhus 2nd and 4th XI lost their respective league fixtures against Frenford and Benfleet.

Better news elsewhere for Belhus CC for the 3rd and 5th XI who both won well.

The Belhus 3rd XI bowlers did well to dismiss South Woodford for 158 as Andrew Williams and skipper Ethan Barnett took 4 and 3 wickets respectively.
Belhus Saiful Islam (43), Simon Walker (34) and Alex Blake (32*) batted sensibly to ensure that the 3rd XI chased down South Woodford’s 158 runs to clinch victory by 4 wickets.

The Belhus 5th XI continued their good form against Horndon with Tom Thompson and Brian Edwards stroking 65 runs apiece to take the Belhus run total to 243.
The Belhus 5th XI bowling attack, led by Mohammed, Gladwin and Webb set about their task with great urgency. Horndon, to their credit, offered stubborn resistance with Tom Sebastian scoring 59 runs to take his team to a total of 162 runs before Belhus youngster Ben Gladwin took all the four remaining wickets in one over, to claim his first ever ‘6for’ in senior cricket. Ben misses out on the record for youngest ever Belhus bowler to take six wickets by 16 days! That particular ‘6for’ Belhus bowling record remains with Mark Fogg.
