COUNCILLOR Sara Muldowney has welcomed the news that brown bin collections are set to restart from Monday, 17th of October.
Speaking after Thurrock Council’s Cleaner, Greener, Safer scrutiny committee Sara said:
“We welcome the confirmation that the Tories has listened to our call to reinstate the brown bin collections but remain none the wiser as to the real reasons for the chaos we have seen on the bins for over a year now.”
Also at last night’s meeting was the councillor responsible for the refuse service, Cllr Andrew Jeffries – he was supposed to be there to answer questions and account for the appalling refuse service that residents have received all this year.
Unfortunately, rather than answer all the questions the committee had, Cllr Jeffries made his excuses and left after less than an hour.
Cllr Muldowney said:
“This was the perfect opportunity for Cllr Jeffries to explain what has gone wrong, apologise for the appalling service and tell us what he’s doing to put it right. Instead he took very few questions, refused to apologise and scuttled off leaving many questions unanswered.
“Unfortunately, this is typical of the way Thurrock Conservatives run the council – there is a total lack of leadership, accountability and grip, and it’s residents who are suffering as services like bin collections continue to be chaotic.”
