THURROCK has joined 55 local authorities across the country, coming together in collaboration to create an insightful video raising awareness of the importance of fostering, and the key role it plays in giving disadvantaged children access to a childhood.

The video ‘Childhood’, debuted at midday today, Thursday 13 October, and is available to view online at thurrock.gov.uk/fostering.

Cllr Barry Johnson, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, said “Fostering is an incredibly important priority for us as an organisation, as we seek to get more local authority Foster Carers to provide a home for vulnerable children who require a safe, loving family environment.

“The new film highlights how neglect can impact a child and their siblings through the journey of ‘Sophie’ and ‘Charlie’, where we see how their needs for food, shelter and care are not being met at home. Throughout the 4-minute video we see them being supported through their local authority foster care system where they go on to attend school and enjoy their hobbies and interests – in other words have a childhood, as every young person deserves.

“This collaboration on a national scale once again shows Thurrock’s involvement in inspiring initiatives both within our own community and across the country. I welcome and encourage our residents to watch the video and consider if they can open their hearts and their home to fostering a young person.”
