GRAYS Athletic hold the local bragging rights after Saturday’s Isthmian North derby at Parkside and a double blow for Tilbury was a win for Gorleston at Bury, which drops the Dockers into the relegation zone.
And to rub salt into their wounds, the first Grays goal came from the man who started the season as Tilbury’s captain.
Striker Roman Campbell netted after 26 minutes to give Grays the lead and the points were wrapped up, in front of a crowd of 359, on 73 minutes when substitute Callum Watts netted.
The borough’s other Isthmian North side, East Thurrock United, did Tilbury a favour for the second week running, coming from behind to beat relegation-haunted Hullbridge Sports.
Rocks were a goal down at the break after one time Rocks hero Martin Tuohy scored on 40 minutes but they bounced back in the second half and goals from Jack Hayes on 57 minutes and Alex Hernandez, just after the hour, saw them home.
In the Isthmian Premier Aveley made up ground on leaders Bishops Stortford who were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Horsham.
Millers went to Herne Bay and won 2-1 to go level on points at the top, though they have played two more matches than Bishop’s.
Tom Stephen put Aveley ahead with a rare goal after eight minutes after good work by George Sykes and Oli Coker was finished by the full back who raced in to calmly slot home.
But just a minute later Herne Bay were level through Marcel Barrington.
The game was decided in the 68th minute when Siju Odelusi hammered home a penalty after George Sykes was brought down in the box.
